New HLM-10 Linear Motion Machine, First Of Hunter's Latest Product Line, Unveiled At Cast Expo 2013
The HLM-10 Series' smooth, quiet, energy-efficient operation and stability, plus lower maintenance requirements, offer customers productivity and profit potential.
SCHAUMBURG, IL (APRIL 10, 2013) Hunter, the first name in automated matchplate molding machines and mold handling equipment, introduced its newly patented HLM Series product line at one of the global foundry industry's largest events, Cast Expo 2013, just held in St. Louis, MO.
According to Hunter Foundry Machinery Corporation president and CEO Bill Hunter, the HLM represents a proprietary new concept in automated matchplate molding technology. "For the first time in our industry, our new HLM Series combines and integrates magnetically coupled rodless cylinders and linear bearings for movements of the squeeze platen, cope flask, sand measuring hopper and other components on the machine," Hunter said.
Previously, cam followers, wheels, tracks, rails and other mechanical components subject to wear and degradation have been used for these motion functions. In contrast, Hunter stated, "The HLM's sealed linear motion slides and magnetic rodless cylinders replace these older components, to provide smoother, quieter and more energy efficient operation with less maintenance and greater machine stability."
"This helps yield higher productivity levels, and profits, for our customers," he said. Hunter, who invented the HLM Series, also noted, "This machine marks another innovation milestone in the 50-year history of our company," adding, "We have incorporated this modern linear motion design because we believe it will have a significant, positive, and immediate impact upon the foundry world."
Other notable features of the HLM Series include separation of the hydraulic power system for cleaner easier maintenance and, linear motion-operated, programmable access doors for maximum operator protection, the new CESARTM vacuum pattern spray recovery system (see separate news release in this media kit) and rodless cylinder-operated board feeder operation.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Hunter Foundry Machinery Corporation was founded in 1964 as Hunter Automated Machinery Corporation with the invention of the first gravity-filled automated matchplate molding machine. This established the company's history of innovation and launched the foundry industry into a new industrial revolution. Pioneered by William "Al" Hunter in his garage, the original HMP-10 machine streamlined the laborious metal casting process by offering foundries unimagined new production capabilities, producing as many molds in one hour as most had been able to produce in an entire day. As demands grew Hunter responded with advanced solutions such as automated turntable and linear mold handling equipment and additional mold size machines.
Hunter's inventions have earned the company nearly 150 patents and today more than 1,600 molding machines and mold handling systems are installed around the world. Hunter's sales and service reach extends from its manufacturing sites in North America, South America and China through its offices in the U.S., Europe, Brazil, India and Shanghai to every corner of the globe. Sales and technical support, as well as the company's $12 million parts inventory, serve to maintain each machine's original production capability, as well as Hunter's preeminence in the world market.
